Tyson's 5k and 10k training in the works!

So, first of all....this 5k was AMAZING!! It was hard with hills, and I haven't really trained for hills, so I wasn't trying to beat my last 5k time of 26:17. I was the first girl to finish, and I did it in 26:44 which I'm very happy about!!! These hills were never ending. There was no break really either. It was pretty flat and a little downhill, which was nice because once the hills came....they lasted a while. I never stopped running though, and it was a beautiful day in Eagle Mountain.
A bunch of pictures were posted from the race. Just for the record, I workout so I can look good. I don't look good while working out. With that being said....
It was a small race. I think around 50 people ran it, and I decided that I really like small races. No weaving in and out of people, and it was quiet. Just how I like it, yet I could see people in front of me to guide my pace and the route. I can't get over how much I loved this race.
Now onto my 10k training. I altered my training plan a bit because my 10k falls on a Monday, so now my long runs will be Mondays. I ran 5.1 miles in 45:45. This is perfect for me. Not too fast, but not too slow. I need to really work on my speed runs and interval training this week. I feel pretty confident that I'll be able to run my 6.2 miles in under one hour!!
Today's workout came from Lindsay lindsaybrin.comBrin and Moms Into Fitness. I did the Shed 5 Fast Level 1 Workout but did all the advanced moves. Then I did Lindsay's 8 minute ab workout you can find on YouTube. Tomorrow is an interval run!!
Also, my husband and I are trying to cut way back on sugar. His body itches when he eats it, so we're trying to cut back and eat smart!!

Headache, strength, and it's Official

Let's me honest....today I feel like crap. Runny nose, itchy ears and throat, pounding headache, droopy eyes. It's not been the best day. The whole 15 minute drive home from work was spent debating whether or not I should workout. I can't even remember what I was listening to on the radio. I've been listenting to a marriage CD, and I'm going to have to go back and re-listen.
I did it though...granted it was only 15 minutes long. I pick up my weights and did that 15 minutes strength workout. It wasn't my best workout, but at least I worked out. I got my weights at ROSS a while back for pretty cheap, and I LOVE them. I have a set of 5 pounds and 8 pounds, and honestly I rarely pick up the 8 pounds. I use the 5s and my own body weight (push ups) to tone up my arms. And, I love my arms. Not gonna lie!! I'm not working out to lose weight at this point. I'm working out to stay fit and to traing for my upcoming race.

And it's official.......I signed up for THIS race on the 4th of July. 10k here I come!!! Anyone want to join me? Also, if you need help finding a race, you came to the right place. Let me know!! I love finding races.

Descipline

I'm making a goal to be more discipline with my eating this week. Would I let my little girl eat some of the things I eat? If the answer is no, I won't eat it either. Man my sweet tooth is a curse!! Good thing I work out so hard. This week I'm starting my 10k training as well!!! It's kind of hard to take pictures when I work out by myself when I workout alone. I'll work on that one though.

Getting Creative,

I've learned since having a baby that fitting in a workout can get tricky. I've also learned that some days I just won't get a workout in, and that's OK!! Then there's those days where I just feel like I NEED a workout badly. This morning was one of those days. This afternoon won't work for working out I'm afraid. I have to sit in on two interviews at work today, so I won't be getting home til much later than usual. That meant getting up this morning early to workout. Thankg goodness Alayna slept through the night!

I was up at 5:20, pumped milk for the wee one, and got to working out. Although it was a bit rainy, the 40 degree weather was perfect for a cardio interval workout found here. It was only 20 minutes long, but it definitely got me moving and sweating!!

Another trick is letting baby be outside when you're working out. I have several interval workouts that can be done in my front yard or driveway, and I put Alayna in her exersaucer and get to it!! There are so many ways you can fit in workouts with little ones around, but sometimes it takes a little creativity!

Race for the Cure

The day finally came for my 1st race of 2011. I didn't take Alayna and her jogging stroller because she's been pretty sick all week. I wouldn't have wanted to take it anyway once I saw the crowd!! They estimated over 16,000 people, and it was packed. I decided last minute to use the bathroom, and I made it JUST in time. This race is timed, but it's not official timing. They don't keep track of each runner's time, so really it doesn't matter when you start! I had my own timer anyway.

It was about 60 degrees when I got there and a little overcast...perfect race day weather. The start of the race was a little annoying because walkers were up front too. The organization of the start of the race wasn't great. I was weaving in and out of people the WHOLE race, especially at the beginning. There was a slight hill up and then down right in the middle of the race. I got a sideache, but it wasn't bad.

I felt strong and even picked up my pace the last mile. I FELT like I was running faster, and it felt GREAT!!! The finish is really fun for this race because it's at the outdoor Gateway Mall with TONS of people cheering you on. I passed several people as I sprinted to the finish with a time of 26:17 which is about an 8:28 mile!! I felt great except I had to come to a dead on walk right as I crossed the finish line since the crowd was at a stand still.

I was handed an orange, water, bread, yogurt, a bag, and a coupon for a free loaf of Great Harvest Wheat Bread. Although this race is packed and crowded it's SO inspirational to see survivors, those still fighting, and those running in honor of lost loved ones.

4 weeks til race #2, and it's a hilly one, so speed runs are gonna have to be hill workouts at least once a week!!!

Mix it Up Monday

My sweet baby girl is sick, so I don't have much time to workout. I always try to get SOMETHING in, but it doesn't always happen. I get lots of my tips from Lindsay Brin over at Moms Into Fitness. One I really like is to at least workout for 5 minutes. Most likely you'll keep going on, and if you don't....at least you got the 5 minutes in.

A key is variety. Change things up. It's good for your own sanity AND it's great for your body. Changing things up tricks your body and your muscles, and you'll see better/faster results.

Todays workout was just that, and I don't want to be sore for my race this Saturday.
I set up my itunes and picked 6 songs. First song I did cardio. (I've done enough workout dvds that I can come up with my own sets of cardio) Second song I did toning, and the 3rd song I did abs lying down. I repeated this twice, but my last round of abs was standing abs. It was awesome!! I got a great workout, wasn't focusing on time, and it went by quickly.

Motivation Secret...a RACE!!!

I ran my practice 5k yesterday, and despite the freezing temps (come on Utah...it's SPRING!!) I ran my 3 miles in 25:50!!! My goal for the upcoming Race for the Cure is to finish under 30 minutes. Considering I don't know how hilly the race route is, I'm aiming for under 28:00. I can do that, right??

I like to workout, but I'm not perfect at it. Training for a race is definitely motivation though. I want to RUN the whole race, and that means getting this body ready. Long runs everyday won't get you there!! Mix it up with cross training, weight lifting, speed runs, and long runs. I love my training plan!! I never get bored with it, and it's adaptable to my schedule and the workouts I like.

Sign up for a race and get moving people!!
